Once a year we welcome you to try the sport we are so passionate about beginning!
In February of each year we will open our canoes to new members who want to get involved with competitive outrigger canoe racing.
Every Saturday and 2x weekly. West end of the beach at 1 Whitecliffs Drive, Newport Beach . Our canoes are blue and orange.
The Open Enrollment period is from February through April. Novice practices are on Saturdays in February and March. Once the time changes in March, your coaches will advise you of the weekday schedule.
We let you try us out for free … but after three times, we ask for $100 to continue. This is non-refundable, however, it will be credited towards your novice dues should you decide to continue and join the racing team. Novice dues for the Iron and Sprint races for 2017 are $300. This covers all of your racing and training through July. Should you continue into 9-man season, you will be assessed an additional $150 to complete your annual dues (the same as returning members).
What do you need to bring?
A great attitude
Clothes that can get wet (it is a water sport!)
Sunscreen
The ability to tread water for 5 minutes (you might get wet …)
A great attitude
Either a strong base fitness level OR the commitment to improving your fitness (or both!)
We supply the instruction, the canoes and (in the beginning) paddles.
